Decentralised fruit and veg

Buying organic, seeded and ‘wonky’ fruit from the local farmer (decentralised) > buying genetically modified, seedless, pesticide ridden fruit from the supermarket (centralised).

Decentralised Fruit – each ‘wonky’ piece of fruit looks different (left). With centralised fruit, all the food looks the same, by design (right).

Decentralised Veg - organic and wonky.

Distributed – buying fruit which is grown locally reduces the reliance on a single area of production, with everyone buying what grows in season locally, too.

Permissionless - anyone can access the network. Some seedless fruit, with a patent, is not permissionless, as farmers cannot replant the seed to grow them again. The same applies for pesticide use, with a financial and enviornmental impact. Compare this to organic farming below.

Resistant ecoystsem – Having varied crops allows the food supply to be more resistant, most bananas (47%) are cavandish bananas and vulnerable to diseases. Have you had any of the other banana varieties?

What is your favourite decentralised fruit or vegetable?

Many thanks,
